Your Sound Devices Mix-Pre 3 and Mix-Pre 6 can be synchronized with any Tentacle SYNC E or ORIGINAL timecode generator, TIMEBAR timecode display or a TRACK E audio recorder. For more information about Tentacle syncing workflow with the Setup App, click here.
Proceed as follows:
- Set your mixer and Tentacle device to the same frame rate
- Sync your Tentacle and set the Output Volume in the app to LINE or AUTO
- Connect your Tentacle to the Aux IN of the Mix-Pre 3 or 6 on the right panel
- Set mixer menu:
- Main Menu > System > Mode > Advanced > press OK
- Main Menu > Input > Aux In Mode > Timecode > press OK
- Main Menu > Timecode > TC Mode > Aux In 1
- The running Timecode is displayed on your Sound Devices Mix-Pre 3 / 6
Recommended cable
C07 Tentacle to DSLR-Timecode Cable (this cable is included in any SYNC E set)
Important Note
With the first generation of Mix-Pre 3 / 6 the Timecode disappears on the display as soon as you pull out cable from the Tentacle and the timecode recording will stop. In order to sync your first generation Mix-Pre with a camera you have to keep the Tentacle connected to the Mix-Pre 3 / 6 all the time.
Jam-Sync Tentacle from a Sound Devices Mix-Pre 3 and 6 II:
The second generation of Mix-Pre 3 / 6 recorders have timecode generators built-in. That means it is now possible to jam-sync a Tentacle Sync E from the Mix-Pre 3 / 6 II – if you prefer to do so.
- Set your Mix-Pre 3 / 6 II > Advanced Mode
- Outputs Menu > Stereo Out Mode > LTC
- Connect your Tentacle (blinking red) to stereo output until it is synchronized (blinking green)
