We recommend to work with one Tentacle for each recording device. It is the safest workflow. This way you sync your Tentacles once at the beginning of shooting, connect one Tentacle to each camera or audio recorder and leave it connected and running the entire day without any hassle.
Our Tentacles have identical calibrated clocks that keep a timecode signal in sync for up to 24h. Their batteries last even longer. That's why our Tentacles can output the correct timecode throughout an entire day. No re-synchronization needed!
Workflow with one Tentacle timecode generator:
- You need at least one recording device with a built-in timecode generator
- Use your Tentacle as the timecode source and set the receiving device (with built-in timecode generator) to external timecode
- Once the recording device (mostly an audio recorder) is synced to the Tentacle, you can connect the Tentacle device to your other recording device (mostly a camera)
Some audio recorders can retain the timecode even when they are turned off and on again, while others lose this information and need to be re-synchronized each time you change batteries. To understand how your specific equipment behaves, it's best to run a test to check the timecode behavior and see if the timecode continues after it has been turned off.
