The Zoom F6 audio recorder can easily be synchronized with timecode by any SYNC E or ORIGINAL timecode generator, TIMEBAR timecode display or TRACK E audio recorder. For more information about Tentacle syncing workflow with the Setup App, click here.
Proceed as follows:
- Set your audio recorder and Tentacle device to the same frame rate
- Sync your Tentacle and set the Output Volume in the app to LINE or AUTO
- Set F6 menu:
- Menu > Timecode > Mode > Ext
- Connect your Tentacle to the TIME CODE IN/OUT socket of the Zoom F6

Zoom F6 as the timecode source:
In case you like to use the Zoom F6 as the main timecode source in your setup, be aware that uses a different pin configuration. While our devices send the Timecode IN and OUT both on the tip, the Zoom F6 sends the output on the ring. We don’t offer a dedicated timecode adapter cable for the Zoom F6, here is the workaround:
- You can either solder a custom cable yourself or have it made. The left and right of the two stereo channels have to be reversed in the pinout.
- You can order the C16 Tentacle and Bodypack to Camera Y-Cable in our online shop and use the Transmitter connector with the golden lockable minijack on the Zoom F6 and the standard TRS minijack for the Tentacle as indicated on the cable.
These cables only allow for receiving Timecode from the Zoom F6. As mentioned above, we recommend using a timecode generator as a timecode source for ease of use and convenience.
