There are two ways to sync your Sony A7SIII (ILCE-7SM3, firmware 3.0 or higher) and SONY A1 (ILCE-1, firmware 2.0 or higher)
with Tentacle SYNC E or ORIGINAL timecode generator & TRACK E audio recorder.
Setup via micro USB port (file TC):
- Update your Sony A7SIII (ILCE-7SM3) and SONY A1 (ILCE-1) camera with the latest Sony firmware
- Set your camera: Menu > TC/UB > Timecode Run > Free Run
(Please make sure Setup>Display>TC/UB Disp. Setting>TC is selected, otherwise the TC won't be visible on your camera-display)
- Set your Tentacle device and camera to the same frame rate
- Take your synchronized Tentacle (flashing green) so that it's outputting timecode (line or auto output volume) and connect it to the micro USB port on the side of your A7SIII (ILCE-7SM3) and SONY A1 (ILCE-1)
- Use either this cable
- OR use these two cables in combination
- As soon as the cameras has taken the timecode, it will display EXT-LK behind the running TC
Setup via 3.5mm mic input (audio TC):
You can easily sync your Sony camera with the help of a Tentacle SYNC E, TRACK E or ORIGINAL. The camera doesn't have a timecode input, but you still can record timecode as an audio signal on one of the audio tracks via the 3.5mm microphone input of the camera.
- Set your camera and Tentacle device to the same frame rate
- Synchronize your Tentacle device so it is outputting timecode (blinking green)
- Connect your synced Tentacle device to the mic input of your camera
- Use this included mini jack cable
- You will record audio timecode on the left channel and the audio of the internal mic of the Tentacle device on the right channel of your stereo input
Note:
- Before recording timecode as an audio signal, check your post-production workflow, since not all editing software programs can read audio timecode.
